Real-Time Applications with Stochastic Task Execution Times: Analysis and Optimisation
Editura: SPRINGER VERLAG GMBH
Embedded systems have become indispensable in our lives: household appliances, cars, airplanes, power plant control systems, medical equipment, telecommunication systems, space technology, they all contain digital computing systems with dedicated functionality. Most of them, if not all, are real-time systems, i.e. their responses to stimuli have timeliness constraints. The timeliness requirement has to be met despite some unpredictable, stochastic behaviour of the system. In this book, we address one cause of such stochastic behaviour, namely the application and platform-dependent stochastic task execution times. The problem of accurately determining the deadline miss ratio of an application and to optimise the performance of a system taking the aforementioned ratio into consideration is extremely important as it has a significant impact on the cost of the end product. Real-Time Applications with Stochastic Task Execution Times presents three approaches to the analysis of the deadline miss ratio of applications with stochastic task execution times. Each of the three approaches fits best to a different context. The first approach is an exact one and is efficiently applicable to ...

Signs and Designs of the Virtual(izing) E@st
Editura: BIBLIOBAZAAR
Anul aparitiei: 2013
Viorella Manolache engages in a complex and fascinating discussion of the manifold ways in which postmodern discourse dissolves the distinctions between logos, ethos and pathos, replacing them with what we could call sociology of persuasion. But suffice it to say that she provides a map of this contested terrain, which offers a path through the shifting set of interests and boundaries in what is as much a therapeutic space as a conceptual space. The importance of Viorella Manolache's book is that it reminds us that the virtual has a key role to play in keeping the ship of state afloat, in navigating the liquefying spaces of culture, in reconstructing its parameters, as well as in determining its destination, and that unless the virtual fulfils a participatory function, we run the risk of allowing a debilitating cynicism to lead to an abdication of our role as participants in our own social and political future. Intercultural Exchanges in the Age of Globalization
Editura: KESSINGER PUB LLC
Anul aparitiei: 2015
What is the real meaning of globalization seen from an intercultural perspective? Can the "either"/"or" logic be overcome, when seen from the angle of intercultural approach? Intercultural Exchanges in the Age of Globalization volume tries to explore both the already-mentioned alternatives, and the legitimacy of the dilemma "per se", thus underlining the complexity and diversity of intercultural exchanges in an age of globalization.

Philosophical-Political Hecate-Isms: The Rule of Three
Editura: CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARS PUB
Anul aparitiei: 2016
This book introduces a new conceptual category to philosophical and political discourse, namely Hecate-isms, which can be applied to post-postmodernist theory. This concept is defined here as resulting from the philosophical and political mechanisms of the rule of three, and as representing a tri-phase construction of homo triplex, including elements such as prosperity-security-freedom and distance-power-security. The book will appeal to the wider academic community, to PhD students, professors, and researchers with an interest in political philosophy, political science, postmodern philosophy, and cultural studies.

Globally Generated Vector Bundles with Small $c_1$ on Projective Spaces
Editura: American Mathematical Society
Anul aparitiei: 2018
Provides a complete classification of globally generated vector bundles with first Chern class $c_1 \leq 5$ one the projective plane and with $c_1 \leq 4$ on the projective $n$-space for $n \geq 3$. This reproves and extends, in a systematic manner, previous results obtained for $c_1 \leq 2$ by Sierra and Ugaglia. Page dim. 254 x 178 Series: Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society Weight: 230 grams
