Aber diese untersuchungen haben sich eigentlich nur auf zwei punkte concentriert, auf die frage nach dem syntaktischen verhältnis der teile unter einander und zum ganzen, und auf die frage nach der formation des ersten teiles. Dagegen ist der zweite teil fast leer ausgegangen. Und das hatte einen natürlichen grund. Die beschäftigung mit den griechischen composita ging aus vom sanskrit und der sprachvergleichung. Given the tremendous pressure on poets to render familiar stories in unfamiliar and novel ways, how did he achieve this? When Statius elected to sing of the quarrelsome sons of Oedipus he was acutely aware that this was a well-trod road, one frequently reproduced in a variety of genres - epic, drama and lyric poetry. Zu den Inschriften, die die Kaiser und hohen Beamten betreffen, liegen inzwischen vollständige, an modernen Editionskriterien orientierte Bände vor (CIL VI 8,2 und 8,3). An einer entsprechenden Edition der Inschriften sakralen Inhalts hat Silvio Panciera als führender Experte für die Inschriften der Stadt Rom lange Jahre bis kurz vor seinem Tod gearbeitet. Als Ergebnis seiner Forschungen kann nun der erste Teil des Bandes zu den 'tituli sacri' vorgelegt werden. Er umfasst die Inschriften zu den Göttern, deren Namen mit den Buchstaben A bis F beginnen. Der Band bietet damit umfangreiche Nachträge zu den früher bereits im CIL publizierten Inschriften wie auch eine sorgfältige Publikation der einschlägigen Zeugnisse, die in den letzten 85 Jahren neu gefunden wurden. Ergänzt wird dies durch das Ergebnis einer Detektivarbeit: 1926 wurden im Nomina-Index zu den stadtrömischen Inschriften (CIL VI 6,1) Nummern von Inschriften zitiert, die im CIL gar nicht publiziert worden sind.
